We use a combination of stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry and our understanding of the effects that the various growing systems have on the isotopic fingerprint to test produce for consistency with declared origin. A range of factors are taken into account as well as growing location such as glasshouse or field grown and the effect of any geographical factors.
It works for fruit juice too!
Stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry for different produce types in most cases provides a fingerprint linked to organic production that can be referenced to our extensive databases allowing us to check your produce for consistency with organic production methods.
We are able to DNA test the variety of your tomatoes, peppers and apples against our existing databases of reference varieties. We can develop new tests for reference varieties of additional fruit and vegetables as long the genetic makeup of the produce allows us to exploit this exciting technology. We are always developing new tests in this area so watch this space.
