Food Forensics was formed in 2011 as a result of an identified need to protect both consumers as well as genuine producers and processors from fraudulent labelling. The laboratory was awarded ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation in 2014 for its Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry and in 2015 added accredited DNA speciation testing to its portfolio. In 2018, speciation by Next Generation Sequencing was added to the accreditation schedule, and in 2019 the laboratory was awarded ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation.
Food Forensics is unusual in that its staff offer expertise across the whole food supply chain; from animal nutrition to production as well as specialisms in scientific services of Stable Isotope Analytics and DNA technology. A thorough understanding of the challenges within the food chain ensures Food Forensics is well placed to support clients in finding their optimum solution to the challenges presented by the complexity and vulnerability of modern food production systems.
