Dairy Testing at Food Forensics

Origin

Within the dairy sector, origin can be of particular importance, especially for products that carry the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) mark. Using stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry, we can determine the consistency of a product’s declared country of origin against our database and in some cases, this could be for specific region.

For highly protected products, such as the cheese Parmigiano Reggiano which is protected under Italian law as DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata), additional to origin testing we use further analytical data (trace element data from working with our partners) to confirm consistency with reference products.

Speciation

We can test food, food product, feed and environmental swab samples containing dairy products for animal DNA to confirm whether cow, goat, sheep or buffalo derived.

Organic

Some dairy products are suitable for consistency with organic production system validation. We would work with you toensure a suitable database of authentic samples is used against which we could test your products using a combination of analytical methods.
