UK Modern Slavery Act Statement Financial Year 2024/25

Introduction

Our business, Food Forensics Ltd is committed to combatting slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains, and we make this statement to assist with compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. This statement relates to the financial year ending 2025.

As our business has a turnover of less than £36 million, we do not have a legal obligation to produce a modern slavery statement. However:

To that end, we confirm that we have examined our own business and, to the extent that it is reasonably practicable, businesses within our supply chain and we confirm the following:

About us

Food Forensics, based in Norwich, UK was formed in 2011 as a result of an identified need to protect both consumers as well as genuine producers and processors from fraudulent labelling within the Food and Drink sector.  We are a leading UKAS accredited food testing laboratory undertaking the analysis of food, food products, beverages, feed, and environmental swabs.

We offer advice and support on chemical, microbiological and authenticity testing from risk profiling, supply chain and provenance, risk management to testing programmes; delivering added value and robust due diligence.  We employ c28 members of staff all on full or part time contracts of employment in the UK.

Supply chain

We work with 59 core Tier 1 suppliers of goods and services such as IT, utilities, and inputs and 30 partners who provide outsourced services utilised by Food Forensics and ourclients, in the main complementary business in the food scientific sector.

Where it is reasonably practicable, we ensure that businesses in our supply chain have made a similar statement relating to slavery and human trafficking.

Policies

Our policy applies to all staff and is incorporated into our agreements with customers, suppliers, and contractors. The policy outlines our zero-tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking.  It also sets out what action individuals should take if they are concerned that slavery or human trafficking is taking place in our business or supply chain.

To ensure that the risk of slavery or trafficking is prevented we will engage with customers, suppliers, and contractors to require that they improve their practices where concerns are identified. We operate a number of internal policies to ensure that we are conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner.

 These include the following:

We make sure our suppliers are aware of our policies and expect them to adhere to the same standards.

We also encourage all employees to report on any matters relating to slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains of which they become aware.

Due Diligence

All contractors undergo due diligence during onboarding to ensure they understand our modern slavery commitments and expectations. If any concerns arise, further clarification is sought.

We periodically review supplier performance and address any issues as needed. Our staff are encouraged to report concerns confidentially through our Speak Up Policy.

Charlotte Rakhit, our HR Manager, is responsible for assessing matters related to slavery and human trafficking within our business.
