DNA exists in every living thing and can be used as a powerful analytical tool for finding out the meat or fish species present in food and food products.

In the laboratory we analyse the DNA extracted from food, whether that’s a fillet or a ready meal, by a process called real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR for short). This essentially allows us to make multiple copies of the DNA present which we can detect.

We regularly undertake testing of many different meat and fish species and are always adding new ones to our portfolio.
