Batch matching compares a test sample against a retained reference sample. This utilises the unique profile (usually a combination of stable isotope ratio analysis and trace elements) of the selected batch or production run and provides the fingerprint against which test samples can be compared. Applications include wines and spirits, specific production sites (i.e. checking for ‘on farm’ egg dilution), milk powder samples etc. It can also be useful for investigating customer complaints.
